Dillon got an iPhone (eventually!)

iPhone Home Screen

iPhone Home Screen

Okay, so I’ve had it for a week already, but I was too busy playing with it to write about it! This is, quite simply, the best phone, and the most fun that I’ve had in ages! It does everything that my Windows Mobile phone did and more. And it does it beautifully!

One of the best points for me is the lack of stylus. I don’t miss it one bit! This means, of course, that there’s one less thing for me to break. And without a stylus there’s less chance of the screen getting scratched. Shew!

I’m afraid that my iPod Classic is going to be slightly neglected now… The iPhone i may only have an 8GB capacity, but that’s still enough for most of my music, a movie or two, and a bunch of photos. Oh yes, and games! I’m not normally one to play games, but I’m feeling inspired! Tap Tap Revenge, here we come!

I’m still trying to get an idea of how long the battery will last under normal usage conditions, but I just haven’t been able to leave the phone alone! So at the moment it lasts about a day… But at least I’m having fun! And it’s not so bad carrying a USB cable in your pocket to charge your phone with!

That’s all for now – it’s time for breakfast!

Automatically mount hard drive in Ubuntu

I was having a problem this week where I couldn’t access my storage drive until I had mounted it. This meant that I couldn’t start playing my music until I had mounted it – and sometimes I would forget. So anyway, after a little bit of searching I found a little program called Storage Device Manager which does the trick!

It was surprisingly easy to get this little program running. Simply type “sudo apt-get install pysdm” into a terminal window. To start Storage Device Manager simply type “sudo pysdm” and the following screen will appear:

Storage Device Manager in action on Ubuntu 8.10

Storage Device Manager in action on Ubuntu 8.10

Here it is very easy to choose which drives you would like to mount automatically, and set permissions for unmounting them later (if needed).

Now I have no problems getting my music up and running after booting my computer!

Using a tablet

M400l’ve been using a tablet PC for a few hours now, and I’m thoroughly enjoying myself! And, of course, I thought I should share this information. It’s a Toshiba Portege M400 if you’re wondering. The notebook screen has a very cool way of turning backwards and then folding back down so that the keyboard is inside and the screen is outside. This makes it very comfortable for writing with the stylus on the screen.

This fantastic little computer also happens to have an Intel Core Duo Processor with 2GB of RAM, an 80 GB hard drive and a DVD dual-layer writer. Maybe one day when I’m big ill have a toy like this for myself…

And just incase you’re wondering, this complete entry has been written and edited using the Toshiba. So you can actually do work on it!

It just died

Guess what? My notebook’s power supply died this morning! Okay, so it has been a little strange for the last year or so, but this morning it just stopped! So now I’m borrowing another one. Shew!

If all goes well I should have a new power supply here by Friday. Let’s hope that happens!

But the most important thing to remember is: I’m on holiday! Hooray!
