New Camera!

I couldn’t help myself… I bought myself a new camera for Christmas! There just happened to be a special on the camera that I fancied at the same time as I had exactly the right amount of money… Coincidence: I think not!

Sony DSC-T2This camera has just the right amount of “gadget-ness” for me: it has a 2.7″ touch screen, shoots at 8.1 mega pixels, has 4GB of internal memory, 1cm macro mode and cool things like face detection and smile shutter.

What I do like about the camera is it’s compact size. Oh, and the lens does not extend from the camera as was the case with my DSC-W70. So now when the battery dies I am not stuck with the lens sticking out! Nice.

Did I say touch screen? There are a grand total of 5 buttons on this camera – the remainder are on the screen. And this menu system seems to be the most intuitive so far (I can actually find the options I’m looking for…).

The one feature that has been an instant success with my friends and I is the smile shutter. Somehow the camera decides when you’re smiling, and then automatical

ly takes the picture. This has been the cause of many terrible pictures…

So far the only aspect of the camera that I don’t like is the lack of view finder. My DSC-W70 had

that – and you could turn off the screen to save battery. Not so with this one. But I’m getting over it! Alltogether this is a camera that I love! And the macro mode is rather incredible too!

Cloverfield

Cloverfield Theatrical Poster

I think the relative word here is “wow”! I didn’t know anything about the movie before watching it, so everything was unexpected. Firstly, it is shot from a first-person perspective, which takes a bit of getting used to. But once you’re in-tune with the up and down motion you’re set! I’d have to admit that for most of the movie I had very little clue of what was happening, and even at the end I was left with questions. I guess I will have to just watch it again!

Basically, the story is about 5 young New-Yorkers attending a going-away party when some kind of a monster attacks the city. The movie is their documentation of the event – and I would have to say that it is extremely well done!

Of course, the things that helped the movie along were simple: friends and food! It’s never the same on your own…

So go and watch Cloverfield as soon as you can!

MXit PC

MXit PC running on my Windows Vista notebook.Basically: I like it! For someone who is lazy like me, MXit PC works like a dream! It means that I have one less item to work with – now I just have my notebook and the TV and I’m fine! And guess what? This version DOES actually work on Windows Vista (unlike previous versions).

I have MXit on my Windows Mobile phone and it seems to work fairly well, but it does help to have a full keyboard – and this doesn’t chew my phone battery! (So now it lasts a whole TWO days.)

The interface is very similar to the phone version, with each person’t chat in a tab. Having it on my pc just makes it so much more convenient for me to use. So thank-you, unknown MXit programmers!

Now my only problem is finding people who actually want to talk to me…

Saturday

All I can say is: ‘Hooray for the weekend!’ For a change I have absolutely nothing planned for this weekend. My intentions are simple: relax and enjoy myself. With a plan like that there is always the possibility of becoming completely bored, but I will just have to deal with that eventuality.

I am supposed to be in Jo’burg visiting Achsah, but unfortunately it didn’t work out – sorry Ach! I would still love to be there, but there seem to be too many things making that impossible. I guess I will have to make it up to her sometime!

So if you see this post and think it would be good to invite me around for lunch, or supper, or afternoon coffee and cake – the answer is yes, I would love to come and eat your food!
