Cloverfield Theatrical Poster

I think the relative word here is “wow”! I didn’t know anything about the movie before watching it, so everything was unexpected. Firstly, it is shot from a first-person perspective, which takes a bit of getting used to. But once you’re in-tune with the up and down motion you’re set! I’d have to admit that for most of the movie I had very little clue of what was happening, and even at the end I was left with questions. I guess I will have to just watch it again!

Basically, the story is about 5 young New-Yorkers attending a going-away party when some kind of a monster attacks the city. The movie is their documentation of the event – and I would have to say that it is extremely well done!

Of course, the things that helped the movie along were simple: friends and food! It’s never the same on your own…

So go and watch Cloverfield as soon as you can!

The Invasion

Invasion Movie PosterLast night I took out two movies: Resident Evil: Apocalypse, and The Invasion. Resident Evil piqued my interest because of an article I watched about effects used; the movie was entertaining and the effects were fairly fantastic. But The Invasion is what I want to talk about…

This movie is also know as ‘Invasion of the Body Snatchers’ and is a remake of the movie of the same name from 1993. And that’s what it’s all about. I think it was a cleverly-made movie that brings some plausible ideas to mind. I’d watch any movie with Nicole Kidman in it, but I would watch this movie even if she wasn’t involved.

I’m a sucker for science-fiction movies, and that’s what made me take this movie home, but it doesn’t seem to be too far ‘out there’ to be enjoyable.

Here’s the synopsis from Wikipedia:
A NASA space shuttle crashes to Earth under mysterious circumstances, and an extraterrestrial disease in the wreckage begins infecting human beings. A psychiatrist from Washington, D.C., Carol Bennell (Nicole Kidman), and her colleague Ben Driscoll (Daniel Craig) discover that once infected, a transformation which robs the victims of their humanity is triggered by hormones released during REM sleep. As the infection spreads, fewer people can be trusted. Fighting to stay awake, Carol looks for her son, who may hold the answer to stopping the invasion.

Star Wars… Bring it on!

Episode IIThis weekend I’ve been catching up on Star Wars. Started on Friday night while finishing an assignment with Dave – we watched Episode II – Attack of the Clones. I enjoyed that so much that it inspired me to continue. So on Saturday night we watched Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, and last night we watched IV and V. Shew! Going to watch the last one just now. Don’t you just love holidays!
